When God Calls the Unqualified: Returning to What Matters Most

By Shane — May 2025

Sometimes God doesn’t call the qualified — He qualifies the called. That thought has been rattling around in my head ever since Joe and I sat back down in front of these microphones after a season away.

We didn’t plan to be gone as long as we were. Life happened — the way it always does. Jobs, family, health, doubt. There were days I wondered if the podcast was even worth coming back to. Who were we, anyway? Two guys with no theological degrees, no mega-church platform, no particular expertise in anything except showing up and being honest.

“But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.”

— 1 Corinthians 1:27, ESV

That verse stopped me cold one morning during my quiet time. God doesn’t need our qualifications. He needs our availability. And maybe — just maybe — the very things that make us feel disqualified are the things He wants to use most.

So here we are. Back at the microphone. Unqualified as ever. And more convinced than ever that God isn’t done with this little podcast — or with any of us.

If you’ve ever felt too broken, too ordinary, or too far gone to be used by God — this episode, and this season, is for you. Pull up a chair. We’re just getting started.
