The Gift of Being Broken: Why God Uses Imperfect People

By Shane — March 2025

We spend so much energy trying to look like we have it together. The right words, the right posture, the right answers. But what if our brokenness is actually the very thing God wants to use?

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’”

— 2 Corinthians 12:9, ESV

Paul wasn’t writing that from a place of theoretical comfort. He was writing it from hardship — a thorn in the flesh he begged God three times to remove. And God said no. Not because He didn’t care, but because the weakness was the point.

There’s a kind of freedom that comes when you stop pretending. When you walk into a room and say, “I don’t have this figured out, but I know the One who does.” That’s not weakness. That’s the bravest thing a person can say.

The gospel doesn’t call us to be strong. It calls us to be honest about our weakness so that God’s strength can show up in us. That’s the gift in the brokenness. Don’t waste it trying to cover it up.
